Do you feel seen and heard?
What’s your story?
What’s mine?
We are not so different from one another in our humanity and our desire for community and connection.
The Origin Stories Project is an approach that blends storytelling and art, each enhancing the other. Participants are invited to share their origin story—whether rooted in migration, cultural heritage, discovery, or struggle—and create an original artwork that evokes the story. We believe that the collective result of so many apparently diverse stories will, paradoxically, illuminate the bonds that unite us—just as the hundreds of distinct recorded voices at Ellis Island telling their stories of coming to the United States, along with the touching items they brought with them (a house key; a wedding dress; a love letter), form a collective narrative of immigration.
